Script
(Actor 1 is sitting center stage looking bored with a party hat on his/her head. He/she is sitting on a wrapped gift. Enter Joe. He has a wrapped gift. He applies knock on the door or rings doorbell.)
A1: Yeah ... door's open. Come on in.
A2: (jumps on stage)Ta Da! Today's your BIRTHday! Denenenenenennene! Gonna have a good time! DENENENENENENE! Today's your BIRTHday! (A1 gives A2 the look so A2 gets right in A1's face and sings louder) TODAY'S YOUR BIRTHDAY!!! DENENENENENENE!!!
A1: What's your problem?
A2: What's YOUR problem?
A1: What's YOUR problem?
A2: OK. Stalemate! Hey, I brought you something for your birthday! It's something you can use right away. (Hands A1 gift)
A1: That's really nice. Thanks. (Slips gift under his/her butt and sits back down. Resumes bored expression. Both remain silent for a few seconds.)
A2: Well?
A1: Well what?
A2: Well, what about the gift?
A1: I said thank you. I really appreciate it. The wrapping is beautiful.
A2: Aren't you going to look at it?
A1: I did. I told you, it's beautiful.
A2: Well ok, but how about what's inside?
A1: (Takes gift from seat and shakes it.) Hm, I wonder what it is? (Shakes it again) Oh well. (Puts it back on seat and sits down)
A2: Aren't you gonna open it?
A1: That would ruin the suspense. Besides, I don't want to ruin the nice wrapping.
A2: Oh. (They both are silent for a few seconds) That's a shame.
A1: What?
A2: It's something you could really use.
A1: Really. What is it?
A2: Open it and find out.
A1: (pulls gift out and looks at it) But if I open it I'll use it!
A2: Yeah.
A1: Then it will get used!
A2: Yeah.
A1: And eventually it will get dirty and worn and old.
A2: Would you just open the stupid thing already.
A1: (thinks for a few seconds) Alright. (opens gift) Wow!A pillow?
A2: Yeah. Isn't it great? Happy birthday! I'll see you tomorrow. (walks off)
A1: (Looks at pillow. Thinks for a minute and slips it on to the chair and sits down) Hey, this is really comfy! Thanks Joe! Denenenenenenene! Today's my birthday!
A2: (From off stage) I heard that!
A1: (smiles as lights down)
