Reader 1: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given
Reader 2: And the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called...
Reader 3: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Reader 4: Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.
Reader 5: For to us a child is born.
Reader 1: Waiting, watching, hoping against hope, the faithful have looked and longed for a Saviour.
Reader 4: To fulfil the promise to Abram to bless all nations through him.
Reader 3: This child: God’s promise to David—a throne forever, among us,
Reader 2: For Simeon and Ana waiting in the temple, anticipating his arrival.
Reader 5: My eyes have seen your salvation.
Reader 1: To all of earth groaning, waiting for a savior.
Reader 3: To us, to you and me in this moment.
Reader 4: But also to the ones who walked before us.
Reader 2: At long last, all generations cry out,
All: “For unto us a child is born”.
Reader 5: To us a son is given.
Reader 2: But not just any son.
Reader 3: The Son!
Reader 4: The one and only, the first and the last.
Reader 1: The perfect lamb.
Reader 2: And the government shall be upon his shoulder.
Reader 3: We lose something in the translation.
Reader 1: Governments rise and fall, they are temporary.
Reader 4: If we don’t like who is in office now, we wait a few years and vote someone else in.
Reader 5: The power of leadership, and the weight of authority, will rest on His shoulders.
Reader 3: The dominion will be on his shoulders.
Reader 2: Dominion, royalty, rule, supremacy, never-changing authority and power, ability to accomplish whatever is needed or desired, full and complete control.
Reader 1: Full dominion is on the shoulders of Jesus.
Reader 5: What beautiful shoulders they are.
Reader 3: Shoulders that lend His strength to the weak and sick.
Reader 1: Shoulders that bear burdens.
Reader 2: Shoulders that picked up a cross and carried it on our behalf.
Reader 4: Shoulders that lean forward to pick up a fallen one.
Reader 2: Strong shoulders that we can hide behind as He defeats our enemies.
Reader 1: Shoulders to lay our head on when our heart aches.
Reader 3: Shoulders that embrace us tenderly with love that never lets go.
Reader 4: Shoulders that shake with laughter as we delight Him.
Reader 5: What beautiful shoulders they are.
Reader 1: And his name shall be called, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Reader 4: His name? His name we’ll know in many ways—
Reader 3: Wonderful!
Reader 2: Do we grasp that word?
Reader 5: If wonder is anything that creates amazement, then it describes everything about Him.
Reader 1: Astounding, Awe inspiring, Marvelous, Extraordinary, Magnificent, take your breath away, Miraculous...
Reader 5 – Counselor.
Reader 4: Even as a 12 year old, he astounded the Rabbis at the temple with His wisdom.
Reader 3: Advisor, Teacher, Mentor, Advocate,
Reader 5: Mighty God.
Reader 4: Mighty in Hebrew is Gibbor: meaning strength, power, hero.
Reader 2: In a world of Superman, Ironman, and Captain America, He is the only One truly worthy to be called a hero, the one whose might is unparalleled.
Reader 1: Not only would He have the power of God. He is the God of power.
Reader 3: Everlasting Father, eternal, immortal, indestructible, ever-present, never failing, without end, Papa, Abba, Daddy...
Reader 5: Prince of Peace: master of wholeness, shalom.
Reader 4: Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.
Reader 2: Heaven came down to us.
Reader 1: His kingdom here, on earth.
Reader 3: He has full dominion, full authority, but it’s also increasing.
Reader 4: Continually marching forward. Ever increasing his kingdom.
Reader 2: A kingdom that cannot be perverted or shaken.
Reader 1: Imperishable, undefiled and unfading.
Reader 5: A peace without end.
Reader 3: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not a worldly peace.
Reader 2: Abundant, overflowing peace.
Reader 1: Enough peace for every need and struggle
Reader 5: A peace that passes understanding.
Reader 4: The intense passion of the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, will carry this to completion.
Reader 3: We who walked in darkness have seen a great light.
Reader 2: We lived in death's shadow, but now light is shining on us.
All: For to us a child is born. To us a son is given.
