Script

(Setting:  A shoe store. A couple of shelves with some plain looking shoes, one pair of really sparkly very high heels….. some seats of various sizes etc…  something for the clerk to dust with like a wand… a Swiffer maybe?)

Narrator: Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." We are his workmanship... created for good works. However, we have seen cases where we do not always do what God wants of us. Case in point Jonah - he had to be swallowed by a whale to get him to go where God wanted.  God creates us to walk where he wants us to walk, to wear the shoes he has prepared for us. However, do we try sometimes to wear shoes not made for us?

Scene opens. Just the clerk is in the store dusting the shoes off, when a family comes bustling in.

Mom – Hurry up girls, Anna, Drew, you two over here, Cindy you just wait by the door.

Clerk – Can I help you?

Mom – Yes I need to get shoes for my daughters.  Not just any old shoes but special shoes.  Shoes that
show how important they are.

Clerk – Ah, so 3 pairs of shoes?

Mom – (sputtering) 3 pairs! (laughing) oh no, only 2, Cindy is only my step daughter and I am sure she
doesn’t need a special pair of shoes.  I mean there is nothing special about her so how can there be anything special planned for her life?

Clerk – We are all special….

Mom – (cutting her off) I know what the plans are for my daughters. Now if we can get to it, let's find
them those special shoes!  Anna you sit down first.

Anna – Oh mom, I want those (pointing to a pair of shiny shoes, not the shiniest though).

Clerk – A very nice choice (starts to walk to retrieve them).

Mom – No, those are not special enough for my daughter….  She needs to have something much more
grand….. she will try those shoes up there (points to the very blingy, very high heeled shoes).

Clerk – Ma'am, we are not all made to walk the same path, nor in the same shoes. These other shoes are
much more fitting for her feet.

Mom – No, she will wear those shoes right there. She is my daughter and I know what is best for her!

Clerk – (shakes her head sadly grabs the shiny shoes and brings them to Anna)

(What ensues next is a comedy of trying to fit big feet into small shoes, pushing and shoving, mom trying to push the feet in, different angles grunting groaning etc. This should be rather comical so play it up….)

Mom – (from in the middle of the fray) Drew?, Drew baby you come over here and try these shoes on.

Drew – But mom!.....

Mom – Don’t you but mom me, get over here now……

(More pushing shoving and grunting as they try to get shoes on her feet…. In the midst of all this Cindy is looking at the other shoes and Anna ends up with the original shoes on that she liked, when she sits down and we see the bottom of her feet. They say something like, "Choir member"…….)

Anna – (screams in delight) Oh mom, look, they fit! They are just perfect!

Mom – (looking horrified) Take those off, take them off right now. You can’t wear those, those are too
common. You can’t be common just an ordinary choir member, I have bigger plans for
you!

(At about that time Drew also squeals with delight as she puts on a pair of shoes that fit her perfectly.)

Drew – Mom look, they are great, they fit just right. (She lifts them up to look at them.) Oh, they say
SS Teacher!.

Mom – I forbid this!  You will not be a SS Teacher.  Next thing I know Cindy will be a missionary!

Clerk – I am very sorry, but you can’t control the walk that God has chosen for you. If you have prepared
your life for it, you need to accept it.  We need to take what he has given us and use it, not run
away from it.

Mom – Well I never, come on girls let’s leave.

Anna and Drew – But mom, what about Cindy?

Mom – Really, what could there be here that would fit her?

Clerk – Well, let’s just see….

(Cindy sits down)

(Clerk looks around the room and her eyes settle on the sparkly high heeled shoes.)

Clerk -  I wonder? (she says almost to herself, as she takes down the shoes and walks over to where
Cindy is sitting)

Cindy – Oh, I can’t imagine those would fit me.

(Clerk proceeds and the shoe fits on her foot easily.)

Clerk – Only God knows what his plans are for you. God has prepared these for you to walk in!
