Script
1: [Each one getting louder] Uuurgh! Uuurgh! Uuurgh!
2: Whatever’s the matter with you?
1: [Slowly and slightly slurred] I .. feel .. sick ... I ... feel ... really, really [pause] sick.
2: But you’ve only been eating hot cross buns!
1: No … I … haven’t! I’ve … been ... eating ... Easter ... eggs ... as ... well!
2: No wonder you feel sick!
1: Oh I do. I feel ... really ... really ... [pause] sick.
2: Well, it serves you right. And I bet you don’t even know what Easter eggs mean, do you?
1: [indignantly] Oh yes I do.
2: Go on then. Tell us. What do Easter eggs mean?
1: They mean ... they mean ... [suddenly brightening up] They mean ... [drooling tone] chocolate, lovely chocolate, shaped like eggshells, f.f.f.full of toffee or f.f.f.fondant f.f.f.filling. [Pause, then back to slurred tone] Oooh, I feel sick ... I feel ... really, really ... sick.
2: [sneeringly] You don’t know, do you? OK – tell me where eggs come from.
1: The chocolate factory.
2: Not chocolate eggs, stupid! Real eggs.
1: Oh, that’s easy. The supermarket.
2: I’m getting fed up with you. Here’s a clue. [Makes chicken noises]
1: [Pause] I’ve got it!
2: Well don’t get too close, because I don’t want to get it as well.
1: A chicken! That’s the answer ... a chicken. And that reminds me. Why did the donkey cross the road?
2: Shouldn’t that be ‘why did the chicken cross the road?’
1: No! Why did the donkey cross the road?
2: I don’t know: why did the donkey cross the road?
1: Because it was the chicken’s day off! [Raucous laughter] Are you going to tell me then?
2: Tell you what?
1: What Easter eggs mean.
2: Only if you stop being stupid.
1: OK, OK, I’ll be really, really sensible from now on.
2: Hmmm! What would happen if you left the egg with the chicken?
1: It would put a date stamp on it.
2: [annoyed] You’re being stupid again!
1: Sorry. It would hatch, and a lovely little fluffy chick would come out. Aaah!
2: Now we’re getting somewhere. In other words, new life would be the result.
1: So what’s this got to do with Easter eggs?
2: Well, Easter is the time when we remember how Jesus came back to life after he had died on the cross and been put in the tomb. And because he conquered death, we can have new life which will last for ever.
1: I get it! So the egg which gives new life is used to stand for the fact that Jesus came back to life so that each one of us can have new life too … and one day live with him for ever.
2: Eggs-xactly! Do you get it? Eggs-xactly!
[As they leave the stage]
1: Do you mind – I'm supposed to do the yolks, not you!
2: [puzzled] What?
1: Oh – never mind!
