Discussion on the space shuttle provides a parable on the subject of doubt.

Andy: It's really amazing, now, Neil, that we can see our world quite differently from the way people have in the past. Cos we can see it from space. We even go up in shuttles and can look at the earth from the moon. It's incredible.
Neil: You don't believe that tosh, do you?
Andy: What do you mean? Yeah, of course. Don't you?
Neil: Course not. It can't be proved, can it? How can you prove they've been up in a shuttle. It's just your opinion, innit.
Andy: Don't be daft. You've seen the pictures. It's been on TV.
Neil: I suppose you believe in X-Wings, TIE Fighters and the Millennium Falcon.
Andy: No, of course not.
Neil: But I've seen pictures of them flying in space. Those pictures are more convincing than the ones of a man on the moon. Bloke bouncing around in a black and white picture.
Andy: But loads of people saw it with their own eyes, the shuttle going up. How do you argue with that?
Neil: Perhaps they were mistaken.
Andy: Yeh, right. 100's of people saw it.
Neil: I'm still not convinced. For it to be true I'd have had to see it with my own eyes.
