A short Monologue by an 18-year-old girl named Grace, who works in a department store. This is written for Christmas, but could be changed very easily. The main idea of the script is that we, as Christians, are free to say "Merry Christmas" and not "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings" (or, if changed, that we, as Christians, have religious freedom to act out our faith, even if we might not always be able to say that out loud for everyone to hear).
Grace
Hi, my name's Grace McDowell. I'm eighteen years old. And, um… well, I have something I just have to confess.
You see, I work at JC Penny's on the weekends and after school sometimes for extra cash. You know how tight money gets when you have a car, and a cell phone, and you just have to go to the mall everyday! Anyway, like I said, I work at Penny's in the junior's department most of the time, but during the Christmas season I help out in the gift wrap section. My boss, Mr. Kevin Nuños, keeps telling me how divine my wrapping skills are. (But I personally think they moved me to Gift Wrap section because Mrs. Grimm said I'm such a nuisance in the junior's department.)
But that's beside the point! Anyway, one day, I wrapped up some lady's box (oh, wait, Mr. Nuños wants us to call them "customers"). So I wrapped up this customer's box in green paper with a beautiful red ribbon! I was SO proud of myself for curling it just right! Well, when I gave it back to her, I said "Merry Christmas" and she kinda glared at me like I was an idiot or something! Well, I thought all was fine, I mean, I probably had lettuce or something stuck in these horrible braces, but the next week Mr. Nuños called me into his office! (coughs)
"Miss McDowell, I have received a complaint from a customer who is angry that you (point) said 'Merry Christmas' to her."
(Resumes "Grace" personality) Here, I flinched! (Then goes back to acting like Mr. Nuños)
"I personally thought this over on my mind (tap) and decided to give you my honest opinion."
"Miss McDowell, you say 'Merry Christmas'. It is your freedom of religion to say 'Merry Christmas' so you exercise that freedom. Gracias, Miss Dowell. You may leave."
I was, like, so amazed he wasn't going to fire me or anything! Mr. Nuños is so awesome! And I heard that I'm moving back to the junior's department in January! Well, it was great talking to you! Like Mr. Nuños says, Adios!
