MARY MAGDELENE: "She who has been forgiven much, loves much."
Yes, those
words of my Lord are true. What I would be? Where I would be,
had He not
found me? God only knows. He looked at me and saw more than what was
on the
outside. Not a woman, not a gentile, not a sinner-but saw right down
into my
heart. And it was a heart that was aching with an emptiness no
hunger can
describe. A heart full of the pain of the past with no hope for
the future.
But one look in His eyes and I knew. I knew I was forgiven, I
was loved.
And that-deep down to the core of my being-I would never be empty again.
Is it any wonder, then, that I followed Him with joy. No mere
Jewish rabbi
would teach with such authority and love-not to mention let women sit
at His
feet. My whole life opened up before me. And then, His
life-that most
beautiful, precious life-was taken.
Is it any wonder I stayed by Him-followed him with tears to the cross
and to
His grave, even when His disciples-all but one-had fled. And
now, this
morning I came just to be near Him, and they have taken Him again!
They
have taken my Lord and I don't know which is emptier-my heart or this
tomb.
(Mary stays weeping before tomb while song [as from her heart] is sung).
Song: "I Don't Want to Go" (written by Jess Cates & Yancy (c)2001, recorded by Avalon, Sparrow Records (c)2001)
(Light glows from the tomb)
ANGEL: (Off stage) "Why are you crying?"
MARY: Because they have taken away my Lord, and I don't know where
they
have put Him.
(Mary glances over her shoulder and sees Jesus standing behind her,
all in
white).
JESUS: Why are you crying? Who are you looking for?
MARY: Sir, if you have taken Him away, tell me where you have
put Him, and
I will go and get Him.
JESUS: Mary!
Mary: (Recognizing Him) Master! (runs and falls at his feet, trying
to
touch them)
JESUS: Don't cling to me, for I haven't yet ascended to the Father.
But go
find my brothers and tell them that I am ascending to my Father and
your
Father, my God and your God.
(Jesus disappears back into the shadows).
MARY: (witnessing to crowd (audience)): I have seen the Lord!
He is alive!
And He will live in my heart forever!
