(Thomas enters)

"Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." Those were his words to me, for I did not believe. My name is Thomas, you may know me better as Doubting Thomas.

The real irony is I left everything, my possessions, my friends, (pause) and family to follow this man, the messiah, Jesus. With faith enough to leave everything behind, I still did not believe. I watched him raise Lazarus who had already been four days in the tomb. In fact it was I among the twelve that said, "Let us also go with Jesus, that we may die with him." In those days it was dangerous for us that near Jerusalem. Oh, I had courage, but wisdom, faith? After watching him raise Lazarus, how could I put a limitation on him to do the same for him self? Human doubt and logic I guess. After all, Jesus was the physician and who heals the physician when physician ails.

It all became very clear and simple once the Holy Spirit descended upon us in Jerusalem. With the clarity to recall his words, I realized he had told us he would return. In describing Heaven he said, "In my Father's house are many mansions; I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself. Further, he told us, "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

The most memorable occasion for me was immediately following his outburst against the marketers in the Lord's house. The Jews demanded of him, "What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?" Jesus resolved to teach us even then, he sat on the temple steps and caressed a huge building stone then said "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days."

Frankly we all thought him a bit mad. It had taken 46 years to raise the structure, how little we knew then. (Begin to get emotional) We had no idea he was referring to the temple that was his body.

For those of you with ears, hear me now. We who lived with him missed many clues when he was with us. What are you missing today?

I walked with this man and I did not believe. I spoke with him and I did not believe. (Tears welling, broken voice) I broke bread with him and to my great shame, did not believe. Then when he came to me that day and said, "Thomas, here touch my side so that you may believe." I could not. All could do was fall on my face at his feet and say "my Lord, my God". Gentley he lifted me by the sholders and said you believe because you have seen, but blessed are those who believe and have not yet seen. Truly blessed are those, no blessed are YOU (point to the whole congregation) that believe but have not seen.
